Regulations governing the public use of Caminito del Rey

Mandatory operating rules:

  1. To visit the Caminito del Rey It will be mandatory to have the corresponding ticket, which will include the date and time of the visit; this ticket is also necessary to leave the site. Access will always be via the northern area (through Ardales), unless otherwise authorized, so that visitors always descend.

  2. Visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and must prove their age with their ID card, passport or family book.

  3. The person carrying the ticket will be the beneficiary of a civil liability insurance that will cover any contingency that occurs during the visit from the entrance to the walkways until the exit from them, but provided that said contingency has not occurred due to non-compliance with the established rules, or due to the exclusive fault of the visitor.

  4. Visitors with reservations must arrive at the chosen access area at least 30 minutes before the time indicated on the reservation receipt for the visit, in order to organize the visiting groups.

  5. Visitors with valid tickets will have direct access to the walkways via the north entrance. Access is only permitted through designated areas; entry and access from any other point along the route, especially via the railway tracks, is strictly prohibited. The Provincial Council and any entity managing the facility are exempt from any liability arising from unauthorized access.

  6. Visitors are required to wear correctly any safety equipment that may be provided to them at the entrance.

  7. Pedestrians must always keep to the right, a rule that must be observed especially on the walkways. When overtaking on these walkways, extreme caution must be exercised to avoid endangering anyone standing on the railing near the gorge.

  8. All persons who access the Caminito del Rey, and therefore to the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Area, must observe these rules as well as all those required in this area by the competent department for the environment.

Given that the visit takes place in a protected natural area with narrow passages at great heights, especially its walkways, and in order to preserve the natural values ​​of the place and avoid endangering your own safety and that of other visitors, the following prohibitions must be observed in general:

  1. Using inappropriate footwear for hiking (it is totally forbidden to use flip-flops, high heels or any other footwear that is not suitable for this activity or that may cause ankle injuries or falls) and wearing clothing inappropriate for the season in which the route is carried out.

  2. Picking up children or people of any age at any point on the walkways is prohibited.

  3. Use a harness or any restraint device on the "lifeline" (cable) located on the walkways, as it is an obstacle that crosses the walkway and can endanger other visitors, potentially causing falls into the void.

  4. Carrying backpacks, bags, purses, or any other bulky transportable items is prohibited. The use of selfie sticks, walking sticks, and crutches is also forbidden.

  5. Failure to use correctly the safety elements that may be provided or indicated at the access to the walkways.

  6. Use an umbrella in case of rain. Wearing a raincoat or similar garment is mandatory in such cases.

  7. To abandon or throw away trash.

  8. Light a fire.

  9. Smoking any type of substance.

  10. Consuming alcoholic beverages and any food not included in the recommendations section (water, energy drinks, chocolate bars, energy bars, nuts and fruit).

  11. Taking photographs or recordings with a tripod or any other element that may obstruct the smooth flow of other visitors.

  12. Using drones or similar devices is prohibited, except with express authorization from the relevant Department for the environment, as they cross a Natural Area with a significant bird community.

  13. Access this space in the company of animals.

  14. Bathing in the river or its pools.

  15. Enter the canal tunnels.

  16. Leaving the designated path in the Valle del Hoyo area (risk of causing landslides).

  17. To uproot plants or parts of them.

  18. Shouting or listening to loud music.

  19. Undress, take off your shoes or lie down in this space.

  20. To damage rocks and other geological elements, such as fossils.

  21. To create graffiti or any type of inscription, both on natural and artificial elements.

  22. Scattering the ashes of the deceased.

  23. Access with a baby stroller or similar, or with wheelchairs or with any accessory that could hinder a possible evacuation.

  24. Access to the premises with children under 8 years old.

  25. Selling and reselling tickets (reservations) or counterfeit versions of them.

Visitors are obliged to strictly comply with these Rules of Use as well as any others that may be adopted by the responsible personnel in response to unforeseen or unexpected circumstances:

  • Visitors must respect the rules and instructions of the Control and Information staff, as well as the Security personnel, when entering the premises and throughout their visit. Extreme caution should be taken to avoid falls, and visitors are asked to cooperate with keeping the premises clean.

  • Failure to comply with the above rules will empower the responsible personnel or authority to expel anyone who violates them.

  • The company reserves the right to close, limit, and/or temporarily suspend the visit, including access days and times, for reasons of safety, conservation, repair work, weather conditions, and force majeure. The visit date may be changed within a two-month period. This change is always subject to availability. No other circumstances will be considered for refunds or exchanges of tickets.
